Chain-Link Shawl !


Using two beautiful, complementary yarns, a layered-chain effect is created when the chains worked in the second yarn are overlaid and woven into chains worked in the first yarn.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: 70 inches wide x 16 inches long
MATERIALS: Sunrise Diakeito DiaCosta Nuova (CSN) light (DK) weight rayon/acrylic yarn [11/2oz/148 yds/40g per ball): 3 balls #107 purple core with red/ green strands (MC)
Sunrise Diakeito Masterseed Cotton Lily (MSY) light (DK) weight cotton tape yarn (116 yds per ball): 3 balls #607 purple (CC)
Size G/6/4mm crochet hook
GAUGE: Gauge is not important for this project.
PATTERN NOTES
This layered Shawl is worked from the center back with main color (MC) down 1 side and then worked from the center back down the other side. The contrasting color (CC) is overlaid and woven into the main-color chain, working the front center down 1 side and then working from the center back down the other side.
Chain-7 at beginning of row counts as first treble crochet and chain-3 at corner unless otherwise stated.
Join with slip stitch as indicated unless otherwise stated.
SHAWL

Step1
Row 1: With MC, ch 81, sc in first ch from hook, [ch 7, sk next 4 chs, sc in next ch] across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 7 (see Pattern Notes), [sc in next ch-7 sp, ch 7] across to last ch-7 sp, ch 3, tr in last st forming last ch sp, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in last tr, [ch 7, sc in next ch-7 sp] across, ending with tr in last ch-3 sp, turn.
Next rows: [Rep rows 2 and 3 alternately] 31 times. At end of last row, fasten off.
Step 2
Row 1: Join MC with sc in first ch on opposite side of row 1 of Step 1, [ch 7, sk next 4 chs, sc in next ch] across, turn.
Next rows: [Rep rows 2 and 3 of Step 1 alternately] 32 times in opposite direction. At end of last row, fasten off.
Step 3
Getting started: Join CC in center of ch-3 at end of row 1 of MC as shown on Diagram 1.
Row 1: Ch 3, sc in ch-5 sp of starting ch on row 1 of Step 1, [ch 7, sc in next ch-5 sp] across, turn ch mesh.
Row 2: Ch 3, sc around post of MC mesh, ch 3, [sc in ch-7 sp through MC mesh according to Diagram 2, ch 7] across, turn MC ch mesh.
Next rows: Work total of 28 rows. At end of last row, fasten off.
Step 4
Join CC as indicated on Diagram 1, ch 7 of row 2 in Step 2, work same as Step 3.
